Built in 1960 on the Missouri River, the hatchery has produced over five billion fish for release in Midwestern waters. In the cool, softly lit surrounds of the aquarium, visitors become part of the aquatic environment as fish and turtles swim within 13 tanks. Exhibits, displays and aquatic animals located in the aquarium building explain the work and objectives of the hatchery. The hatchery is one of 65 national Federal Hatcheries and Fish Technology Centers operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Open April 1 through Oct. 1 daily from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

A visit to Hebda Family Produce & Prairie Gardens located at Mission Hill is an orchard, berry farm and pumpkin patch which includes fresh-picked strawberries, raspberries, fresh vegetables, pumpkins along with over 10 varieties of apples encompassing 55 acres. During the autumn months enjoy hayrack rides through the pumpkin patch, hay bale and cornstalk mazes. They are the farmers market where you will find homemade jams and jellies, fruit pies, salsa, spaghetti sauces, South Dakota made products and many gift ideas. Open June through Dec., Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Karttrax Family Fun Park provides hours of entertainment for the whole family with a miniature golf, go-karts, bumper cars, bumper boats, two tracks, two seaters, kiddie go-karts, kiddie train, and concessions offering cotton candy, Snowie shaved ice and ice cream. Spring and Fall open on weekends from 1-4 p.m. or later. Summer hours Sunday-Thursday 1-9 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 1-10 p.m. (Open daily in the summer until school starts in Yankton.)

Lewis and Clark Lake, Lake Yankton and the Missouri National Recreational River provide many miles of water and shoreline to explore by kayak or canoe! The beautiful chalkstone bluffs along the lake and river provide a scenic backdrop for people who like to travel across deep and wide waters, see beautiful natural history, enjoy scenery and view wildlife. Lake Yankton has a “no wake” rule which is great for beginners to kayaking and canoeing. The recreational river is a unit of the National Park System and part of the nation's Wild and Scenic Rivers System. The Kiwanis 4-H Ice Center is the home of Yankton Bucks and Miracle Hockey as well as the Yankton Figure Skating program. Additionally, various horse and livestock events are held during the summer months. Public open ice skating sessions are available November through early March. Take a covered wagon tour through the elk and buffalo herds, as you take in views of the Niobrara River. A guide informs visitors along the way of how the elk and buffalo are raised and the products made from them. Also featured are fallow deer and a longhorn steer named, Boomer. Boating, camping, fishing, jet skiing, kayaking, sailing, swimming, tubing and waterskiing are just some of the activities you can enjoy!  The Recreation Area offers over 400 campsites, 17 primitive camping cabins and 4 boat ramps. Lewis & Clark Resort and Lewis & Clark Marina and restaurant are located in the recreation area. The Lewis & Clark Resort has 24 motel rooms, 17 modern cabins and a 6-bedroom lodge featuring an 1,800 sq. ft. grand room for your family reunions or corporation retreats. Lewis & Clark Marina has over 400 boat slips, fuel, boat rentals, mechanics and a convenience store. There are numerous beaches, picnic shelter facilities, play equipment and trails in the state park. A park entrance license is required to use the area; $6/day or $30 for an annual permit. Nearby Lake Yankton and the Missouri River also provide hours of entertainment for the young and old alike.

The Fantle Memorial Park Municipal Pool is open in the months of June, July, and August, weather permitting. The pool has heated water and is maintained at approximately 80ºF. The pool is a 50 meter Olympic sized pool. It has four diving boards, two one-meter boards and two three-meter boards. There is also an adult-child wading pool which is separate from the main pool and is open the same hours as the main pool but with no admission charge.

Did you know Yankton has a National Park? That’s right, the Missouri National Recreational River runs right along Yankton’s historic waterfront. Come discover beautiful stretches of the Missouri River with plenty of outdoor activities, including miles of trails for hiking, biking, running and paddling. Start your visit at Riverside Park where there are exhibits detailing the history of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the steamboat era and the Dakota Territorial Capital. A new feature is the Meridian Bridge, which was recently converted to safe pedestrian access from downtown Yankton to trails in Nebraska. The bridge offers a wonderful vantage point to look upon the Recreational River’s Wild and Scenic waters. Summer programming includes Junior Ranger and other programs for youth; evening programs, canoe and fishing clinics, an exhibit at the Yankton Chamber & Visitors Center and much more. A new attraction for the park is the MNRR Mobile Ranger Station; the station will have exhibits and interpretive programs for kids and adults alike. A formal water trail along the Missouri River from Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, SD to Sioux City, IA. This water trail encompasses the entire 59-mile segment of the Missouri National Recreational River, as well as an additional 20 river miles from Ponca, NE to Sioux City, IA, for a total of 79 river miles. The 39-mile segment of the MNRR, from Fort Randall Dam to Running Water, SD, as well as an additional 30 miles of Lewis and Clark Lake, will be added to the MNRR Water Trail in 2013. The Web site includes information such as access points along the river, points of interest, plants and wildlife, suggested routes for half and full day excursions, provides maps and links to river conditions and much more. Each access point along the MNRR Water Trail has a trailhead sign, which includes maps, points of interest and safety information.

For the young and young at heart, the 134’ water slide and zero depth pool are great places to play. The Summit offers a strength and fitness area, indoor pool, two performing arts theatres, indoor and outdoor walking tracks, soccer fields, football fields, softball fields, eight lighted outdoor tennis courts and gymnasium to help visitors keep in shape. Birthday pool parties are now a reality with special rates available. There are also meeting rooms available for special events. Daily rates are available. Open Monday – Friday from 5 a.m. – 10 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Please call for summer seasonal hours.

Nestled in the golden, chalkstone-lined valley of the Missouri River, the Lewis and Clark Lake area has grown into one of the most popular recreation destinations in the region. The Corps of Engineers offers a wide variety of recreational activities including camping, fishing, hiking, swimming and picnicking. With two campgrounds, boating access to Lake Yankton and the Missouri River, day-use areas with a beach and playgrounds and rentable picnic shelters, the Corps of Engineers areas downstream of Gavins Point Dam are popular with recreation enthusiasts from throughout the Great Plains!
